Talks

Designed for foreign programmers attending Focus Dance, Talks are “appointments” that bring on stage at the Théâtre Les Ateliers eight choreographic teams who are making headlines on the French artistic scene. Onda – French office for contemporary performing arts circulation – is tasked with fostering connections between artists and programmers. To do this, it regularly designs appointment formats that facilitate discovery and enable foreign professionals to gain a better understanding of the French creative arts scene and to enhance their approach to it.
These sessions will take place on the afternoons of 18 and 19 September. Moderated by two French programmers who are heavily involved in supporting emerging choreographers, they will see artists take part in a variation on the pitching exercise. Each team will have 20 minutes’ interaction with moderator and audience to briefly illustrate, in words and video, their artistic world and latest projects.
For these sessions, Onda has gathered choreographers from varied geographical horizons who are all currently working in France. They have in common a way of exploring the renewal of forms and of crafting powerful and singular worlds, particularly through issues of bodily engagement and gender, and through working on archetypes such as the hieratic, heroic, and grotesque figures.

Rendez-Vous with Laurent Goumarre
Guest: Jan Fabre

How does one become a choreographer? How does one find a style, or at least a kind of writing? Which masters and references were possibly decisive factors? What are your limits on stage? These are the questions one wants to ask Jan Fabre, a choreographer, director and visual artist who has been reinventing the performing arts for over 30 years. Whether deconstructing the theatrical genre, creating a heightened physical language, or blending the visual and performing arts on stage... Jan Fabre and his company Troubleyn subversively and unexpectedly shake the art’s foundations whenever they go on stage. This event is a special occasion when an artist discusses their work and comments on video excerpts of their productions.

Presentation of EDN European Dancehouse Network

Founded in 2009 and with a secretariat in Barcelona, the European Dancehouse Network currently has 30-plus members in 17 European countries. Its 30 “dancehouses”, which relish and draw strength from their diversity, pool their energies and skills to carry out joint missions. These all aim to fulfil the same core objective: develop and promote the choreographic art in all its forms – through artists, audiences, and venues for creating and disseminating work. Within the EDN network, a number of projects have already received EU funding (Culture programme): China mov-s, Korea mov-s, Dance Dialogues Africa, Leim, modul-dance and EVDH (European Video Dance Heritage).
